Scientists have created magnets that trigger tumors to 'self-destruct' in a breakthrough that could revolutionize cancer therapy.

Researchers in South Korea have developed a method that uses a magnetic field to flip a "self-destruct" switch in tumors in both living fish and laboratory cancer cells.

Researchers from the latest study, published in the journal Nature Materialsplan on testing the new technique on a variety of other cancers to see if it can destroy other tumors. Programmed cell death, or apoptosis, is a process in which the body rids itself of old, faulty or infected cells, and according to researchers, the cell-death process is often blocked, which often renders some drugs to be ineffective and tumor cells to continue to develop and spread uncontrollably throughout the body.

In the latest study, researchers developed a new magnetic therapy that involves creating tiny iron oxide nanoparticles attached to antibodies or proteins produced by the body's immune system when it detects harmful foreign substances. Researchers explain that these iron nanoparticles bind to the molecules on tumor cells, and when the magnetic field is activated, the molecules bunch together, which automatically triggers the death signal, leading the cancer to self-destruct.

Researchers said that the new treatment may one day lead to new targeted therapies that could destroy tumor cells that are resistant to the usual process of cell death. Researchers at Yonsei University in Seoul placed bowel cancer cells exposed to nanoparticles in between two magnets and found that more than half of the exposed cells were destroyed once the magnets were activated, whereas no untreated cells were affected.

Researchers noted while the new magnetic treatment effectively killed cancer cells in zebra fish in another experiment, magnetically-induced apoptosis therapy caused the animals to develop abnormal tails. Our magnetic switch may be broadly applicable to any type of surface membrane receptors that exhibit cellular functions on clustering," lead researcher Professor Jinwoo Cheon and colleagues wrote in the study.

Scientists noted that their research is still in its preliminary stages and that far more work is needed to be done to see if the process can be refined and eventually tested on people. Cancer Prevention and Reversal

Most methods of intervention involve combinations of surgery, chemotherapy, and ionizing radiation. Both chemotherapy and ionizing radiation can be effective against many types of cancer, but they also harm normal tissues. The use of nonionizing, magnetic fields has shown early promise in a number of in vitro and animal studies.

Our study tested the effect of varying durations of magnetic exposure on tumor growth and viability in mice injected with breast cancer cells. Cancer cells were labeled through stable expression of firefly luciferase for monitoring of tumor growth and progression by using an in vivo imaging system. We hypothesized that magnetic field exposure would influence tumor growth and progression. Our results showed that exposure of the mice to magnetic fields for min daily for as long as 4 wk suppressed tumor growth.

Our study is unique in that it uses an in vivo imaging system to monitor the growth and progression of tumors in real time in individual mice. Our findings support further exploration of the potential of magnetic fields in cancer therapeutics, either as adjunct or primary therapy.

In the United States, breast cancer is the most common nonskin cancer and is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women. Significant funds are allocated toward cancer research each year. Even when surgery is selected as the primary approach the latter therapies are often employed because the extent of the disease is uncertain or metastatic disease is apparent. Both chemotherapy and ionizing radiation can be effective against many types of cancer but they also harm or kill normal tissues.

Because of this limitation, use of doses high enough to kill all cancer cells may be impossible without also producing serious and possibly life-threatening morbidity. The use of nonionizing, magnetic fields has shown early promise in a number of in vitro and animal studies, and warrants a thoughtful trial, whether it ultimately has a role as adjunctive therapy or even a primary role in certain forms of human cancer.

Our study tested the effect of magnetic fields on cancer cell growth. We investigated multiple exposure levels using mice that had been injected with mouse breast cancer cells. The cancer cells were labeled bioluminescently via expression of the luciferase enzyme, which could be identified through an in vivo imaging system. The growth and spread of the resulting tumors in inoculated mice were viewed with the in vivo optical imaging system that monitored tumor progression in a single animal in a real-time fashion.

Our results may lead to the development of newer and less toxic methods of primary or adjunctive cancer therapies. Mice were housed in intraventilated microisolation cages with bedding.

Feed autoclaved and water hyperchlorinated were available ad libitum to all mice throughout the study period.

The details about Neomax magnets stated in the webpage "godlikeproductions" is hard to believe. From my brief search, I can't really find any scientific article discussing about this, so, I will still consider it as an advertisement from a company to promote their product. But, the details about using nanoparticles is indeed true. But, this kind of techniques, as far as I know are still in research level and may take some time to come to application.

Clinical tests have proven that magnets reduce pain. Albert Roy Davis, Ph. He found that magnets could be used to arrest and kill cancer cells in animals, and could also be used in the treatment of arthritis, glaucoma, infertility, and diseases related to aging.

Magnets Can Cause Cancer Cells to "Self-Destruct"

He concluded that negative magnetic fields have a beneficial effect on living organisms, whereas positive magnetic fields have a harmful effect. According to Wolfgang Ludwig, Sc. Ulrich Warnke, M.

These two factors are why clinical studies have proven that magnets reduce pain. The negative electromagnetic field keeps the cellular buffer system pH or acid-based balance intact so that the cells remain alkaline.

The low acid balance also helps maintain the presence of oxygen in the body. A positive magnetic field, on the other hand, can increase pain due to its interference with normal metabolic function. By the end of the first week the pain started reducing and by the end of the month the pain had disappeared totally.

Today, gauss magnets are only an inch in size and weigh about an ounce. The following is a reprint from Magnets In Your Future magazine. April Reprinted with permission.

Kerstin Westelius had lung cancer of the metastasis type. After years of surgery, therapy and chemotherapy, she was told in June by her physicians that her cancer was incurable and that she had only 2 more months to live.

Here in the picture, she is shown in January of with her physician, Dr. Goesta Wollen of Clyde, N. Since July of more than 50 cancer patients in Sweden and America have been treated — all successfully.

One of the patients had breast cancer of the metastasis type; that is, the cancer had transplanted into tissue distant from the site of the original cancer. The technique we used strongly indicates that all kinds of cancer can be cured by this method. It is brand-named Neomax. This company also commercially produces it.When a pain impulse is initiated, it must reach the brain to be determined as pain.

Our illustration to the right exemplifies this concept. The nerve impulse is carried to the brain in a manner that is similar to the flow of electricity along a wire. Simplified, the pain impulse is transmitted to the brain via a flow of positively charged magnetic particles called ions.

There are several ways to block the transmission of the pain impulse to the brain. One is the use of an anesthetic block. A second is the use of drugs which act on the hypothalamus of the brain to dull the pain.

The third is the use of Magnetic Therapy to impede the flow of the nerve impulse.

By placing a highly powerful negative magnetic field over the nerve, the magnetically, positively charged ions will be attracted to the negative magnetic field, thus impeding the flow of the positively charged ions along the nerves to the brain.

Of course, some of the positive ions will escape, thereby allowing continued sensation. However, our research reveals that the longer the magnets are in place over the affected site, the more effective the negative magnetic field will become, Thus, the longer the product is used, the more effective it becomes. On the basis of this research, Dr. Bakst applied for and received the only magnetic concept patent in the United States U. Patent 5, Magnetic strength is measured in gauss.

The higher the gauss rating, the stronger and more effective the magnet will be. Magnets can be compared to light bulbs. The same is true of magnets, the higher the gauss, the stronger the magnet will be.

The magnetic field has the ability to penetrate through the skin. Correspondingly, different magnets have different depths of penetration through the skin.

A ceramic magnet might have a depth of penetration of 1 to 1. If a nerve is superficial near the surface of the skin a ceramic magnet will be sufficient to control the pain impulse of that nerve.

Qibla direction

However, if the affected nerve is 2 -4 inches deep, a ceramic magnet will be of little value. Only the neodymium magnets have the ability to penetrate that deeply. See graphs of penetration depth. Our products are the only ones on the market that use strategically placed neodymium magnets, which makes our products superior and more effective than any other product on the market.

Magnets cannot simply be placed indiscriminately over an affected site. The magnets must be placed so that they can reach the affected nerves. The placement of magnets over the affected site, and the material in which the magnets are placed are what make our products so unique and effective.

Electromagnetic Fields and Cancer

Most products on the market do not take these factors into consideration. Our products are carefully and scientifically prepared. Bakst, a knowledgeable surgeon, uses the anatomy book to carefully document the position and course of the affected nerve.

He then carefully places the magnets in the scientifically appropriate position. In addition, the depth of the nerve is carefully measured and the appropriate magnet is used in that area.

That is why we strategically place a considerable number of neodymium magnets in our products. Lastly, we use the highest quality neoprene available to add additional support to our products. Our products are the only ones available on the market in which neodymium magnets are used and strategically placed.Magnetism is a basic, but powerful force of the universe, with a number of applications within our every day lives toys, compasses, the magnetic strip on your credit card.

A new breakthrough in cancer research may have provided us with yet another use for it. A study conducted at the University of California has determined that magnets can be used to monitor the spread of cancer throughout a patient's body. By injecting small, magnetic beads around potentially cancerous tumors to ID any sentinel nodes, the parts of our lymphatic system that the cancer has first infected if it's spread beyond the tumor.

With the help of the beads and a magnetic wand, doctors can find the tumor, tag the sentinel nodes, and then remove them during a biopsy to check whether the cancer has started to affect other parts of the body. Normally, this procedure is carried out using radiation, but the prohibitive costs and risks make it less safe and desirable than this new method.

As ofcancer is the second leading cause of mortality in men. Though these trials were conducted in women with breast cancer, the technique could become viable for other forms of the disease. Type keyword s to search. Today's Top Stories. Advertisement - Continue Reading Below.
